The humerus nail is a type of orthopedic implant used in the treatment of fractures of the humerus bone in the upper arm. It is a long, cylindrical rod made of metal, typically titanium or stainless steel, that is inserted into the medullary canal of the humerus bone. The cannulated design allows for insertion of a guide wire through the bone and into the medullary canal to assist in proper placement of the nail.The procedure for inserting a humerus nail is typically performed under general anesthesia and with the use of x-ray guidance. The surgeon makes a small incision near the shoulder or elbow and inserts the nail through the bone, securing it in place with screws or locking bolts.
