The Sherman ‘Y’ Plate is an orthopedic surgical implant that is designed to provide stabilization and fixation of fractures in the neck of the femur, particularly in elderly patients. The plate is named after its designer, Dr. Sherman, and it is shaped like a Y. The stem of the Y is placed into the medullary canal of the femoral neck, while the two arms of the Y are positioned on the lateral surface of the femoral neck and trochanteric region. The plate is secured with screws to provide stability and support to the fractured bone.The Sherman ‘Y’ Plate is mainly used for the treatment of femoral neck fractures in elderly patients, particularly those who have poor bone quality. The implant can also be used for patients who have sustained non-union or malunion of the femoral neck.
